Welcome to the Pinelands Good Food Club.
We are passionate about “good food”. So passionate in fact, that we have tried to make a way for our friends and local community to access this incredible resource. We source our food and goods from local suppliers, producers and/or farmers within Cape Town and the Western Cape, or as close to the region as possible. We seek to source food that has been produced and farmed through sustainable and ethical means. Our desire is to use only farmers and producers who have been considerate towards the earth and care about their livestock and those they employ. This is an area in which we are continually growing and learning.
Our guiding values and principles in a nutshell:
Supporting local farmers, producers and suppliers: We want to support farmers and producers who are local to Cape Town and to our region (the Western Cape) as much as possible. Or as close to our region as possible.
Ethical farming and production: We value and support farming methods which are kind and considerate to the environment and livestock. We want to support farmers and producers who uphold the dignity of their employees and pay them a fair wage.
Source good, wholesome food and produce: We want to find good, wholesome food and produce that has been farmed regeneratively where possible, but sustainably at the very least, with the best possible nutritional value. Organic produce is preferred only when it is farmed locally and not at the cost of a high carbon footprint. However, there are times when we’ve considered food or produce from further afield based on other ethical or nutritional reasoning.
Relational focus and community: Building a sense of community within the club is important to us. We value our relationships with each other as club members. We want to be able to engage with each other on all levels, especially with regards to ethical issues and issues of justice related to our food. The size of the group is critical as it affects how easily relational engagement is made possible.
